The case with elaborate scrolling arch cresting to the hood, mounted with foliate marquetry panels, fret carved panels to the sides, outset foliate carved scroll pilasters to the front angles, shaped front glass, the trunk door also with shaped glass panels to the sides and front, the latter overlaid with fretted mouldings and flanked by scroll pilasters conforming to the hood above, with fret sound panels to the backboard, on plinth carved with cartouche shaped panelling to the sides and mounted with a floral marquetry inlaid cartouche panel to the front, flanked by reeded chamfered angles topped by shell mouldings, on stepped base with bracket feet, the scroll sided brass dial with gilt brass foliate spandrels to the silvered and engraved chapter ring applied with gilt Arabic chapters, the centre with retail plaque signed JAMES R. OGDEN & SONS LTD HARROGATE & LONDON,also with openwork scroll mount and subsidiary silvered seconds ring, with silvered CHIME/SILENT and CAMBRIDGE/WESTMINSTER rings above and painted rolling moon to the arch, the substantial four pillar three train movement with anchor escapement, quarter-chiming on eight brass tubular gongs and with hour strike on a further gong, the wood rod pendulum with cylindrical brass bob
