The children were the sons of George Villiers, 1st Duke of Buckingham and his wife Lady Katherine Manners, daughter of the Earl of Rutland. After their father's murder in 1628, the two children were brought up by King Charles I with his own children. Both fought in the Civil War, and Lord Francis was killed near Kingston in 1648.
