A rare 17th-Century Dutch brass compass sundial,
signed on the horizontal hour dial ANTHONY SNEEWINS and dated 1660, the silvered compass dial with iron needle (possibly later), with jewelled cap, with punched scales and folding gnomon, the underside engraved with a monthly calendar scale and inscribed for the year 1660, the upper surface fo the lid of the compass sundial similarly engraved, the interior of the lid with finely engraved and divided calendar volvelle for sunrise and sunset, with table of named cities and towns -- 2in. (5.7cm.) dia.
