Gouache heightened with gold on paper, the Emperor seated on a day bed holding one of his children on his lap, the child reaching into a dish of fruits, an attendant lady standing behind, inscribed on the throne with attribution to Govardhan mounted on card with wide gold floral margins, repainting, the verso with a page of calligraphy in large and small naskh and illumination in colours and gold, similarly mounted, light flaking and staining

Lot Essay

This leaf would appear to come from the same album as the original Shah Jehan miniature, of which lot 25 is a copy. This miniature was apparently reworked when the album was assembled in the 18th century. It was sold at Sotheby's, 26 March 1973, lot7.
