Lot Essay

The Ikhwan al-Safar or Brotherhood of Purity was a mysterious society of scholars holding liberal views and belonging to the Persian Shia house of Buwayh which flourished in the mid-10th century.
Their intellectual activities aimed at a reconciliation of science and religion, and attempted to harmonise Greek philopophy with Islam. It was an enlightened circle based at the court of the Abbasid caliphate in Baghdad.
