AN UNUSUAL 'LAJVARDINA' POTTERY BOTTLE
CENTRAL PERSIA, LATE 13TH CENTURY
With drop-shaped body on short foot rising to a narrowing neck below the baluster shaped mouth with flaring lip, the surface covered with a turquoise glaze, the body further decorated with a broad band of bold linked four-armed stellar motifs surrounded by white enamelled lines, an underglaze black band above and below decorated with white naskh interrupted by gold lozenges, the neck with a broad similar black band, the mouth with similar black roundels containing stellar panels surrounded by scrolling motifs, repaired, very slight restoration, areas of iridescence
