HILL, Nathanial, London, 1754
A NEW Terrestrial GLOBE by Nath Hill 1754
A superb 2-inch (7cm.) diameter terrestrial globe made up of twelve uncoloured engraved gores and two polar calottes, the equator and anti-meridien graduated in degrees, the ecliptic graduated in days with symbols for the houses of the Zodiac, the prime meridian running through London, the ocenas with extensive markings for trade winds and showing Admiral Anfons Tract, no Antarctic coastline shown,

Lot Essay

It would appear from the traces of green paint and varnish, particularly the small trace on the plaster between two gores, that this globe may well originally have been coloured, but the varnish and paint almost entirely removed at some later date. However, the majority of the gores appear untouched and were it not for the small traces it would have appeared never to have been hand-coloured.
