After a design by Thomas Chippendale, the shaped backs with pierced splats decorated with ribband and tassle ornament, between foliate-moulded uprights, with drop-in floral machine tapestry seats and foliate and gadrooned carved seat-rails, on cabriole legs with acanthus-leaf carved knees and claw and ball feet, including a pair of armchairs with foliate-carved shaped arm supports, stamped on the back seat-rails C. Lot Essay

Charles Baker moved to Chippendale House, 4, Wells Road, Bath in 1888 and worked there until his death in 1932. He reproduced a number of 18th century designs but Sheraton shield-back and Chippendale forms were particularly favoured by him.
