Lot Essay

Kimbolton Castle was for over three centuries (1615-1950) the seat of the Earls and Dukes of Manchester. It is famous for being the place where Queen Katherine of Aragon spent her last years. Artistically it is a minor example of the work of Vanbrugh and Hawksmoor with a fine Gatehouse by Robert Adam.
