A VICTORIAN SCOTTISH SILVER-MOUNTED RAM'S HEAD TABLE SNUFF MULL
apparently unmarked, circa 1850
The full ram's head with central oval snuff compartment with hinged domed cover richly chased with thistles and foliage set with a foiled-back faceted oval rose pink quartz, with four various snuff accoutrements suspended from silver chains, the curved horns each with silver thistle-shaped terminal with similar quartz mount, the head applied with two silver presentation plaques, the first inscribed,'Presented to the Gun Room Officers of H.M. Steam Frigate "Arrogant", by an old Mess Mate, "For Auld Lang Syne", 22nd January 1851', the second inscribed,'Presented to Captn. Holloway R.M.A., by his Messmates on board H.M.S. Arrogant as a mark of their esteem and regard, April 1852'.
