A Meissen dark-blue-ground two-handled oviform vase
designed by Ernst August Leuteritz, the scrolling white and gilt handles moulded with leaves and bands of beads above mask terminals, painted with cartouches after Van Mieris of a lady playing a lute, the reverse with a man blowing a trumpet, within gilt oval panels painted in matt black enamels with bands of stylised flowerheads below leaves, issuing gilt scrolling leaves, the neck with similar decoration, on a circular foot with a chased gilt egg and dart pattern band, blue crossed swords mark, incised F.183, Pressnummer 20, circa 1865 (some minute scratches to one panel and very minor rubbing to gilding on the foot) -- 69.5cm. high
