Lot Essay

The plinths on the present candelabra, with their distinctive paw feet, suggest an attribution to John Blades. Similar plinths may be seen on the candelabra by Blades illustrated in Mallett's 1997 catalogue (p.42) and dated circa 1820.
A pair of Regency lustres of related design were sold Sotheby's New York 1997, lot 467.
