Anon. Sale, Sotheby's, London, 16 December 1981, lot 52 ($2200 to the present owner).
Sale room notice
The artist can probably be identified as Johannes Becx (active c.1658-1669) in Middleburg. The present lot is a version, but on panel, of a picture sold at Christie's, London, 18 July 1974, lot 60 as 'Attributed to Johannes Becx'. Both can be compared with two indistinctly signed pictures formerly attributed to Beerstraten, one at Waddesdon Manor and the other formerly on the Amsterdam art market.
