Lot Essay

Marijke de Kinkelder of the Rijksbureau voor Kunsthistoische Documentatie has kindly suggested the attribution to this little known artist who was recorded leaving Rotterdam for Dieppe in 1671 and as being active in Delft in 1700 and in Rotterdam in 1713 (see C.B. de Bruin, 'Een schilderij van Huig Dorre-Wiltschut', Oud Holland, 1941, pp.92-93. A similar picture was offered at Christie's Amsterdam, 2 May 1991, lot 7.
