With turned brass splashrail headed by urns the serpentine top above a conforming case centering a fitted frieze drawer flanked by cabinet doors on square tapering legs with spade feet, crossbanded throughout, stamped HEAL & SON LONDON, the brass uprights stamped OPE

Lot Essay

Heal & Son of Tottenham Court Road were retailers as well as cabinet-makers who specialized in bedroom furniture. They were joined by Sir Ambrose Heal in 1893 who became their chief designer and the firm participated in the various international exhibitions such as Paris Exhibitions and Glascow International Exhibitions (see J.Cooper, Victorian and Edwardian Decor, 1987, pp.236-37).
