Lot Essay
The face of the tiger is somewhat reminiscent of the well-known pair of bronze leopards found at Mancheng in Hebei Province in the tomb of Liu Sheng. Similarly the leopards inlaid in gold with amber-colored eyes, see Zhongguo Meishu Quanji, 1989, vol. 2, pl. 188. For another gold and silver-inlaid weight in the form of a tiger with raised head from the collection of the late Dr. Paul Singer, see M. Loehr, Relics of Ancient China, Asia House Gallery, New York, 1965, Catalogue, p. 128, no. 114.
