A MODEL 1852 NAVAL OFFICERS' SWORD

Of the later type lighter blade (original polish) etched with two panels of fouled anchor, rope/oak branch, an American Shield and anchor motifs. Gilt brass hilt Thirteen star and American Eagle pommel cap, pierced oak branch/USN guard and dolphin finial. Wrapped with knot hanger (knot lacking). Twisted brass wire wrapped ray-skin bound grip. Black leather sheath with three gilt brass mounts with twisted rope hangers and dolphin drag. With hang-tag noting that this sword was owned by Harvey Herrick McCord who entered Annapolis in 1880, and later became Chief Pay Clerk in the Naval Coast Defense Reserve. Retired 1917.
