AN INTERESTING SMITH & WESSON .44 DOUBLE ACTION FRONTIER REVOLVER Serial No. 4340, circa 1885
Side plate inscribed Mart Duggan Marshall/Leadville, Colo. Mother-of-pearl grips. With vintage double loop holster marked R.T. FRAZIER PUEBLO.COLO.

Martin (Mart) Duggan, (born, County Limerick, Ireland, Nov. 10, 1848 - died, Leadville, Colorado, April 9, 1888).
This revolver was used by Mart Duggan during his brief career as Marshal of Leadville, Colorado. After the death of the previous marshal, Leadville under Horace (H.A.W.) Tabor, appointed Duggan as the new marshal. Duggan's brief career was rift with difficulties both from the lawless and law-abiding. His term expired in 1879, and Duggan with his wife left for Flint, Michigan. Mart Duggan returned to Leadville and during a scuffle over horses he shot and killed Louis Lamb. Duggan again left Leadville, only to return in 1887. It was perhaps because of past greivences, that Duggan was shot and left for dead on the streets of Leadville. He died on the morning of April 9, 1888.
