SHERMAN'S ATLANTA CAMPAIGN. An interesting archive documenting Sherman's march from Chattanooga to Atlanta, culminating in the bloody Battle of Atlanta. Summary contents: SHERMAN, Autograph telegraph dispatch, ATLANTA, 26 [September or October 1864] to Genl. John E. Smith: "Order all your small rests that a small redoubt or block House be at once put in good order so that any Excess of troops necessary may be sent to any point of the road if necessary. I hear of no danger Except in Middle Tenn & that is serious; it comes from the direction of Florence so you can do nothing. I have strengthened at Rome & apprehend nothing but small parties between here & Chattanooga. Steedman has gone to reinforce Ro[u]sseau." -- SMITH, ALS copy to General Thomas, Chattanooga, 3 October 1864. Reporting "the country is very full of Hoods, Wheelers, and Witherspoons scouts." -- SMITH, 2 ALS to his son, Cartersville & Corinth, 29 July 1862 & 18 January 1865. The first mentioning "we have not got Atlanta yet," and the second on "orders to march to Memphis." -- HEATH, Thomas, ALS, 16 August 1864. A report on WHEELER'S RAID. -- TOURTELLOTTE, John, 2 ALS, both Allatoona, 6 & 26 August 1864. Informing of supplies at headquarters. -- ROWLEY, ALS, Nashville, 27 February 1864, with Sherman secretarial endorsement. -- MISCELLANEOUS.
