Large albumen portrait of Lincoln, taken in the Brady Gallery, Washington, D.C., on 9 February 1864. 7 x 6 in., with AUTOGRAPH INSCRIPTION AND SIGNATURE "Yours Truly, A. Lincoln," clipped from a larger sheet and affixed to mount, minor staining to clipped signature, handsomely matted and framed. A relaxed seated portrait, familiar in oval format from its use on the five dollar bill. It is the only portrait of Lincoln with the hair parted on the right side, rather than his left. Robert Todd Lincoln later wrote that "I have always thought" this "Brady photograph of my father...to be the most satisfactory likeness of him." Ostendorf O-92.
