Munford had one of the longest service records of any Confederate general, fighting in most battles in the Eastern theater from Bull Run to Appomattox; he served under Jackson and later, with Early in the Valley, was twice wounded at Second Bull Run and finished the war in command of Fitz-Hugh Lee's division.
