CASSIUS CLAY AND SONNY LISTON BOXING LICENSE APPLICATIONS
Two significant boxing license applications filed on February 12, 1964 with the Boxing Commission of the City of Miami Beach. The applications were required for the fight between Cassius Clay and Sonny Liston on February 25, 1964 and are both signed in blue ink by Cassius Clay and Sonny Liston.
Both fighters completed the applications by hand, their signatures being witnessed by a notary. Clay lists his age as twenty-two and specifies Bill Faversham of the Louisville Sponsoring Group as his manager. Liston lists his age as thirty although his handwritten birthdate indicates his age to be twenty-nine; it was widely thought that Liston was even older. Liston lists himself as his own manager. The fight was immortalized by the major upset Clay caused in the boxing world when he won the Heavyweight Title from Sonny Liston against 7-to-1 odds. The only known existing official documentation for this fight. The documents have punch holes at the top and some very minor edge wear, otherwise excellent condition. Letter of authenticity.
