Lot Essay

U-turn was the first of a series of Meadmore sculptures utilizing this type of design system. His innovative use of corten steel in this sculpture proved a revolutionary and influential development for contemporary large scale public art. This particular work was included in Abby Aldrich Rockefeller's collection and was the maquette for a large scale piece that was exhibited in the garden at the Museum of Modern Art.
