The circular top inlaid with nine reserves, the central roundel depicting The Doves Pliny, the surrounding views are as follows (clockwise): Roman Forum, Tomb of Cecila Metella, Campidoglio, Arch of Titus, St. Peter's Square, Pantheon, Colosseum, and the Temple of Vesta, on a black marble background surrounded by malachite, lapis lazuli, and various other specimen marbles, on an associated Victorian giltwood base having a circular top above a fruit and wheat carved stem and three scroll-carved legs, regilt
