Lot Essay

For an example found at Arles, France of similar color and shape, but with the additon of some applied white blobs, see no. 44 in Harden, et al., Glass of the Caesars. It has been suggested that such vessels served as domestic storage jars, but are mainly found in their secondary use as a cinerary urn.
