A GNATHIA WARE SITULA
attributed to the laurel spray group
circa 320-310 b.c.
The body decorated in white, red and yellow with stylized grape and tendril below tongue and bead bands, with mold-made masks applied to the shoulders below the arching handle, one side with Herakles with curling locks, curving mustache and full beard, wearing the lion skin over the top of his head, the limbs knotted below his chin, the other side with a lion-head spout, a strainer on the interior, descending grape and tendrils below each applique
11 in. (29.8 cm) high, including the handle
