A FALISCAN RED-FIGURE VOLUTE KRATER
circa mid 4th century b.c.
The A-side with the demon Charun escorting a youth who precedes him to the left, the winged Charun in profile to the right, wearing a chitoniskos, his flesh and wings in added white with painted details, including the beard and animal ears, the youth standing frontally but looking back at Charun, depicted nude but for a mantle held up in his right hand and draped over his left arm, a beaded bandolier crossing his chest; the B-side with a maenad and satyr, a patterned zig-zag band below each scene, a palmette complex below each handle, a band of tongues above each scene and on the shoulders, the neck with three hippocamps, the central one in added white, below a band of shield-shapes, palmettes below the rim, added white for the volutes
