The wide hoop flat on the interior, convex on the exterior, widening slightly at the shoulders where it joins the conical bezel, the oval stone delicately engraved with a representation of the Apollo Sauroktonos, the youthful god shown standing and leaning gracefully on a tree while aiming a dart held in his right hand at the tiny lizard which clambers up the tree trunk

The Apollo Sauroktonos, was one of the masterpieces by the 4th Century B.C. sculptor Praxiteles, known from the famous Roman marble copy now in the Louvre.
