THREE OSTROGOTHIC GILT SILVER BUCKLES
circa 7th century a.d.
One with an oval loop, the hooked tongue with stylized beak and knobbed eyes, both hinged to a rectangular plate, decorated with a cross in relief within a circle, within a raised double border, with knobbed rivets at the corners, the leather backing partially preserved; one with a kidney-shaped loop terminating in stylized bird heads with raised disk eyes, the hooked tongue with a stylized beak, both hinged to a rectangular plate, decorated with a crossed square, framed by a zig-zag border, with knobbed rivets at the corners, the leather backing partially preserved; and one with an oval loop, the hooked tongue with stylized beak and knobbed eyes, both hinged to the rectangular plate, with a raised gilt cross at the center, within a raised double border, with knobbed rivets at the corners
