Lot Essay

This Brussels silk and metallic thread tapestry relates to a series of tapestries woven at Gobelins depicting the 'Loves of Psyche' after drawings by Guilio Romano, a pupil of Raphael. M. Fenaille in Etat General des Tapisseries de la Manufacture des Gobelins, 1662-1699 vol. II, p. 253 illustrates a related tapestry after Romano now in the French Royal Collection.
