The present work and another version previously given to Michele Marieschi in the Galleria Nazionale di Capodimonte, Naples (Inv. no. 33989), are both based on Marieschi's paintings of Santa Maria del Salute from the Grand Canal known through various versions (see R. Toledano, Michele Marieschi, 1988, pp. 84-6, nos. V. 13.1-13.5).
