Lot Essay

The present lot was executed by Robert shortly after he arrived in Italy (P. de Nolhac, loc. cit.). Joseph Baillo has suggested a date of circa 1755-6. The painting will be included in the forthcoming catalogue raisonné on Robert to be published by the Wildenstein Institute
