La Marquise de Vintimille was the 3rd daughter of the Marquis de Mailly-Nesle and the mistress of Louis XV. The original composition which is signed and dated 1744 was engraved by René Gaillard in 1756 under the title 'La Nuit passe, et l'Aurore Parôit'. It formerly in the collection of H. Young, New York.
