12mo, original diamond-textured plum cloth, spine with gilt-stamped title, quarter dark red morocco slipcase. (Small chip repaired at top of spine, slight wear at extremities; 5-inch tear to map (repaired from verso). Engraved folding "Map of the State of Coahila and Texas" by W. Hooker (handcolored), and 4 engraved plates of Texas scenes, three by J.T. Hammond ("Shooting a deer on the prairie," "Lazooing a horse on the prairie," "Mr. McNeil's estate, near Brazoria" and "Road through a Cane Break."

FIRST EDITION of an early illustrated account of Texas, with a significant map (see Streeter, Bibliography, 1136 for details on the several states).
