GAUTIER D'AGOTY, Jacques (1717-1786) and Joseph Guichard DUVERNEY. Myologie complette en couleur et grandeur naturelle, compose de l'essai et de la suite de l'essai d'anatomie, en tableaux imprimes. Paris: Gautier, Quillau pre et fils, and Lamesle, 1746.

2 volumes, broadsheets (517 x 361) and (758 x 539 mm). Title printed in red and black, 20 life-size color mezzotints, larger volume with each leaf of letterpress bound before its corresponding plate. (Some plates lightly browned, small minor repairs on versos of large plates, some minor marginal dampstaining and wear in second volume.) Old vellum over pasteboard (recased and resewn, some skilful repairs, minor staining and wear).

FIRST EDITION. The plates were engraved and printed in four colors in a process invented by Leblon and elaborated by Gautier, who had a 30-year privilege to use the process in France. The plates are life-size and could be mounted for demonstration purposes. This copy is unusual in that the plates normally found folded are here bound (at a later date?) with their smaller format text leaves in a second larger volume. Choulant-Frank, pp. 270-74; Wellcome II, p. 97. (2)
