4o (281 x 193 mm). 22 mounted albumen prints by Montmj showing eye surgery; numerous woodcut illustrations in text engraved by Badoureau after Lveill. (Some light foxing, some minor marginal dampstaining at beginning.) Contemporary half morocco gilt (some wear to joints and corners).
Publication was announced in the Bibliographie de la France in 1868 (part 3, p. 59). This notice described the book as quarto with about 30 large plates "photographed during operations on a cadaver." It was to be complete in 4 fascicles issued by the end of 1868. There were apparently other versions issued by Lauweryns (one dated 1871) without the photographic plates and without mention of de Montmj on title-page. In the preface to this edition, Meyer writes: "M. de Montmj, qui, aprs sa collaboration avec M. le professeur Hardy, la Clinique photographique de l'hpital Saint-Louis, n'a plus faire les preuves de son talent artistique, a mis profit pour les planches qui accompagnent le texte son exprience acquise par des essais antrieurs et une connaissance approfondie des oprations sur les yeux." VERY RARE, NUC locates only Yale (First fasc. only with 48 pp. and 3 plates), Harvard, and NLM.
