2 volumes, 2 (353 x 268mm). Half-titles, titles with engraved vignettes by Sbastien Le Clerc, engraved head- and tail-pieces, initials, most by Le Clerc. (Occasional browning, upper outer blank margins of vol.I slightly stained by an early ink spillage.) Contemporary French red morocco gilt, spines in seven compartments with raised bands, lettered in the second and third, the others with repeat pattern in gilt composed from various volute tools, g.e. (heads of spines slightly chipped). Provenance: Ren-Franois de Beauvau du Rivau (1664-1739, archbishop of Toulouse, signature and mounted armorials on verso of half-titles).
A fine copy of the first edition from the library of one of the most distinguished members of the French catholic church: signed by him and with a 2pp. holograph extract from a larger work (possibly a draft of a passage from his Histoire de Languedoc). Brunet III, 742.
