Greek and roman types, double column, woodcut initials, printer's woodcut device on title, smaller device on verso of last leaf, 27 double-page woodcut maps (including three repeats) by Sebastian Mnster, 6 smaller maps in the text by Johann Honter and others, one woodcut text diagram. (Tear to title-leaf touching imprint, worming to gutter margins affecting images, borders or captions of 6 mapsheets, one or two short fold breaks, some light dampstaining.) Late 18th-century German sheep-backed marbled-paper boards, central lozenge ?containing ownership mark cut out of front cover, red calf gilt lettering-piece on spine, edges stained yellow (worn and rubbed). Provenance: Orlans, Minims (early inscription on title-page).

Xylander's edition of Strabo is illustrated with most of the maps used in Sebastian Mnster's editions of Ptolemy, printed by Heinrich Petri and his heirs from 1540. Adams S-1907; BM/STC German p. 834; Phillips Atlases 3390.
