Lot Essay

Only a few details of the artist's life are known. He is recorded as being active in Amsterdam in 1659 and as being in Alkmaar in 1660. Almost all his signed and dated paintings are of views in the northern part of the Province of Holland, the earliest of which dates from the 1640's. His paintings have in the past been confused with those of his father Anthony Jansz. van der Croos
