Lot Essay

It is believed that the present example was exhibited at the Louisiana Purchase Exposition, St. Louis, Missouri, 1904, as it is understood that this cabinet was bought in 1904 by a Kansas City, Missouri family at the same time as the preceding three pieces of furniture in St. Louis. The four pieces descended in that family.

cf. Deutsche Kunst und Dekoration (Vol. 16), April 1905-September 1905 for a period illustration of a vitrine that is similar to the present example in its design of the lower portion (table top, under shelves and legs) of and in its inlaid decorative motif on the cabinet.
