The pastels in the present lot are inspired by the pastels by Lorenzo Tiepolo, executed while the artist was living in Madrid, between 1762 and 1776. Lorenzo's pastels were to be his most original and significant contribution to eighteenth century Venetian and Spanish art.

Seven of the original versions are in the Palacio Real, Madrid and one was sold in these Rooms, Jan. 11, 1995, lot 52.
