Lot Essay

The above lot is a model of a very popular design registered with the Designs Office in London on March 16, 1846 (see G. Himmelheber Cast-Iron Furniture, Munich, 1996 pp. 38, plate 92). However, its popularity led to numerous copies of the design in the United States, where British patent restrictions were not imposed.
