JOSEPH of Hamadan (Yosef ha-Ba mi-Shushan ha-Birah; early 14th century). Sefer Chashak (sometimes called Sefer Tashak). MANUSCRIPT ON PAPER

4o (180 x 130 mm). 119 + [2 blank] leaves (perhaps imperfect, see contents). Brown ink. Two Italian semi-cursive scripts. (Dampstained, especially at the beginning, no loss of text, otherwise good condition.) Modern blind and gold-tooled brown morocco, two modern paper flyleaves at back and front, old gilt edges with simple gauffering.
CONTENTS:
A kabbalistic treatise probably written at the beginning of the fourteenth century in Zohar-style Aramaic. The structure of the treatise, dealing with the building of the tabernacle and the merkavah, is very complex.
In the only printed edition, a doctoral thesis by J. Zwelling (Waltham 1975), this manuscript was not used. Like all the other manuscripts, this one is incomplete. The title Or Olam, added by a later hand at the beginning and copied by Neubauer, is incorrect. Six more manuscripts of this work are known to exist.
