MENAHEM AZARIAH of Fano (Italian Rabbi and kabbalist; 1548-1620). Kanfei Yonah (five parts). MANUSCRIPT ON PAPER

4o (240 x 180 mm). 187 leaves. Brown ink. Sephardic semi-cursive script, abstract decoration in a North-African style on fol. 1r. (Some staining and ink corrosion, otherwise good condition.) Later brown diced russia over bevelled wooden boards, covers blind-panelled and tooled with arabesque centerpiece ornament (rebacked, lacking clasps and catches), sprinkled edges, eight original paper flyleaves at the front, fourteen at the back.
CONTENTS:
The first part includes the changes introduced by Ashkenazic scholars. Cf. Y. Avivi, in Alei Sefer 11 (1984) p. 112, and in Sefunot 19 (1989) p. 363. The first four parts are in the same redaction as the Korets 1786 edition (Vinograd, Thesaurus, p. 601, no. 64). The fifth part was not written by Fano, but is appended to this work in several other manuscripts and was printed in Warsaw in 1899. The scribe, who wrote a colophon on fol. 187v, also copied Neubauer, nos. 79 and 97 (lots 131 and 111).
