MENAHEM AZIARAH, of Fano (Italian Rabbi and kabbalist; 1548-1620). Kanfei Yonah (and four other texts). MANUSCRIPT ON PAPER
Copied by Abraham ben Judah Levi of Pinczow, Landsberg, completed on Sunday, 12 Adar 5492 (= 1732)
4o (205 x 160 mm). [1] + 30 + 32 + 38 + 12 + 1 + 4 + 8 + 7 + 6 (= 139) leaves, with original Hebrew and modern lead pencil foliations, the latter followed here. Opening text written within a stylized arch, with floral and abstract decoration, topped by two rampant lions, holding the Levite decanter, pasted onto a second, supporting leaf. Brown ink. Ashkenazic semi-cursive script. (Somewhat soiled and thumbed, last two leaves with minor old marginal repairs, not affecting text, otherwise good condition.) Modern blind and gold-tooled brown morocco, two modern paper flyleaves at back and front, old stained edges.

Fols. 1r-112v: Kanfei Yonah by Menahem Azariah Fano. Includes all four parts. The first part includes the changes introduced by Ashkenazic scholars. Cf. Y. Avivi, in Alei Sefer 11 (1984), p. 112, and in Sefunot, 19 (1989), p. 363. The same redaction as the Korets 1786 edition (Vinograd, Thesaurus, p. 601, no. 64).
II. Fols. 113rv: Commentary on the first mishnah of Sefer Yetsirah according to the doctrine of Israel Saruk. Printed at the end of Sefer Yetsirah, Zolkiew 1745 (Vinograd, Thesaurus, p. 308, no. 116).
III. Fols. 114r-117v: Limmudei Atsilut, by Joseph ibn Tabul (second half 16th century), not to be confused with a work by Israel Saruk with a similar title. Also found in MSS New York, JTS 1635, Oxford, Mich. 457, and Mich. 459.
IV. Fols. 118r-125r: Commentary on the Idra Zuta from the Zohar by Asher ben Joseph. Not printed, but extant in many manuscripts.
Fol. 125v: blank.
V. Fols. 126r-132v: Extracts from the teachings of R. Isaac Luria. Includes Sod Shiv'ah Me'orot (fol. 126r), extracts from Derush ha-Melakhim, Sod ha-Merkhavah, Derush ha-Atsilut by Simeon Kohen and others.
VI. Fols. 133r- 138v: Teachings of Israel Saruk. Printed in Ta'alumot Chokhmah, Hanau 1629, fol. 77ff (Vinograd, Thesaurus, p. 163, no. 56).
All the works except the first were also copied in New York, JTS, MS 1635.
