[Probably Eastern Europe, 17th-18th century]

2o (305 x 190 mm). 162 leaves, with old Hebrew foliation. Brown ink. Ashkenazic semi-cursive script. Title-page within simple decorated architectural frame, executed in the text ink. Marginal notes by the scribe. (Slightly browned, somewhat soiled, good condition.) Modern blind and gold-tooled red morocco, two modern paper flyleaves at back and front, old inscription pasted onto second flyleaf at the front.
CONTENTS:
A kabbalistic pseudepigraphic work on the Biblical account of Creation, attributed to the grandson of Nehuniah ben Ha-Kanah, but actually composed in Byzance, probably in the early fifteenth century by the anonymous author of Sefer ha-Kanah. See M. Kushnir-Oron, The Sefer ha-Peli'ah and the Sefer ha-Kanah (Jerusalem 1980). First printed in Korets 1784 (Vinograd, Thesaurus, p. 600, no. 34). The work exists in dozens of manuscripts, the earliest dating to the mid-fifteenth century. The introduction was not copied.
