AN INDIAN COLONIAL SILVER PRESENTATION INKSTAND
Maker's mark unclear, apparently for Pittar & Co., circa 1830
Elongated oval with leafy ends, on four part openwork swirled fluted tapered supports, the raised center applied with stylized acanthus cast square frame for the silver capped (unmarked) cut-glass bottles, the center with inverted pear form and broadly lobed container, topped by a taperstick, the ground engraved Presented to JOHN MULLER ESQUIRE By the Members of the Calcutta Trade Afsocition (sic) of the estimation they entertain for his valuable services as secretary, with applied elaborate lush foliate scroll, floral and shell rim--14in. (36.8cm.) long, the silver 57.5oz.
