A c.1930s National Duolian
Serial No. 459, in nickel finish, metal body with single resonator cover plate with nine diamond-shaped cut-outs and four raised ribs, upper bout f-holes, black painted wooden neck, nineteen fret rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays, slotted headstock, wooden bridge and metal tailpiece; and a black hardshell contour case with blue plush lining and Lee Dickson's handwritten tie-on label Silver National Steel/Dobro 59 and adhesive paper label similarly inscribed

The National Duolian was introduced in 1931.

Eric Clapton recalls that he has owned this guitar for a long time - at least twenty years. He commented that he used this National for playing slide both at home and in recording sessions.
