Serial No. 7431, neck date and initials T-G-9-54 in pencil, sunburst finish, maple neck with skunk-stripe routing, twenty-one fret fingerboard with dot inlays, three pickups, three rotary controls, five-way selector switch, tailpiece with adjustable saddles and white pickguard; and a tweed rectangular hardshell case with red plush lining and Lee Dickson's handwritten adhesive paper label '54 S/Burst Fender Strat 431; case containing a strap

Eric Clapton said that he used this guitar from the mid '70s onwards for slide, stage and recording work.

The letters TG on the neck are the initials of a Fender employee.

This guitar was photographed backstage at Yoyogi Olympic Pool, Tokyo beside a selection of his stage guitars during Clapton's 1985 Japanese Tour - see illustration pp.112-113. It was also photographed backstage at Budokan, Tokyo, December 1979 - see illustration p.128.

This non-trem 1954 sunburst Strat. was constantly used on slide numbers such as Tulsa Time during the period from 1979 to the Behind The Sun Tour of 1985. This Strat was also seen on the 1979 Japan tour during the concert at Budokan, Tokyo, which was recorded and later released as Just One Night. Clapton also played Tulsa Time on this Strat during the ARMS concert at The Royal Albert Hall, 1983 and on Roger Waters' Pros and Cons of Hitch-Hiking Tour in June-July the following year.

The stage-shots illustrated show Eric Clapton playing this guitar on three different occasions:
