Lot Essay

The present drawings were probably intended as pedestals for furniture or candlesticks which would have been executed in metal. A closely related drawing of a pedestal with two women was in the Houthakker Collection, P. Fuhring, Design into Art, Drawings for Architecture and Ornament, the Lodewijk Houthakker Collection, London, 1989, no. 440, illustrated
